Bubble Dress - Tutorial/Refashion
I was inspired to make a bubble dress after making Elizabeth a bubble skirt based on Disney's bubble skirt from a pair of tights. This bubble skirt is made using a different technique. Here are some pictures of Elizabeth in her adorable bubble dress, the tutorial is after the pictures.
Here's what you need to make your very own bubble dress.
a top
fabric cut 10" x 44"
fabric lining cut 8" x 44"
With right sides together sew down the length of both sides so that you have a circle.

Here's what you need to make your very own bubble dress.
a top
fabric cut 10" x 44"
fabric lining cut 8" x 44"
I decided to make the skirt portion 16 1/2". I measured 1/2" from the bottom of the top to the top of my daughter's knees to get the skirt measurement. I added my seam allowances (1/2") for a total of 18". I then cut one fabric square 2" longer than the second piece (the lining). With right sides together sew down the length of the longer piece and serge or zigzag stitch the edge.
Fold the lining in half right sides together, then fold in half again. You should have a 11"x8" rectangle. Now cut the side with the selvedge at a 30 degree angle. When you open the rectangle you will two pieces with the top wider than the bottom.
With right sides together sew down the length of both sides so that you have a circle.
Sew a gathering stitch along the bottom of the skirt and gather it to the bottom of the lining (right sides together). Using a 1/2" seam allowance sew the bottoms together.
Flip your skirt so that it is right side out. Pin the top of the skirt to the top of the lining and sew a gathering stitch along the top. Gather, pin,and sew the skirt to the bottom of the top/bodice of the dress.
This is what the dress should look like when it is inside out. That's it!!
